Brave Fighter Against the Pandemic: Interview with Guo Weiming, Marketing Director of CYG SUNRI and an Alumnus of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HUST

On the morning of April 19, 2020, vehicles carrying smart campus body temperature measurement systems arrived at the building of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HUST. The advanced equipment from CYG SUNRI Co., Ltd. can realize intelligent body temperature measurement to replace manual measurement and can recognize masked faces, thus guarantee the safe return of students. The advanced products made in China contribute to the fight against the pandemic.

Guo Weiming, Marketing Director of CYG SUNRI and a 2005 alumnus of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HUST, experienced the whole process, from R&D and design to processing and manufacturing, and then to delivery. In an interview by the social practice team of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering on the theme of “China’s backbone manufacturer of electrical equipment contributes to the fight against the pandemic”, he said that "CYG SUNRI began to use the existing technology to carry out scientific research on body temperature measurement equipment at the beginning of the pandemic.” Although the company's technology in image monitoring and big data analysis is very mature, it was still challenging for the company to produce affordable equipment that can accurately measure body temperature to meet the requirements of pandemic prevention and rapidly respond to the market. However, an enterprise should care about overall national interest when the country is in a crisis, and should fulfill its social responsibility. All difficulties can be overcome. After a period of hard work, CYG SUNRI finally successfully developed a temperature measurement system integrating image recognition, trajectory analysis and body temperature measurement. Through face recognition and comparison, people's track, real-time body temperature, and the ones who were in contact with them can be quickly screened and checked. The system improves the detection efficiency and contributes to the pandemic prevention and control.

"The needs of our country create the biggest 'market’ for enterprise,” said Guo Weiming. His words reflects his strong sense of social responsibility. "Fight against the pandemic and pull together in times of trouble. I believe that we can win the battle against the pandemic! I am very proud that CYG SUNRI can bring warmth to people. ”

When talking about the resumption of work and production during the pandemic, Guo Weiming said that "CYG SUNRI is one of the first enterprises in Shenzhen to resume work and production, and it only took ten days for us to complete pandemic prevention preparation required for resuming production. Our rapid resumption of production is strongly related to the characteristics of the industry. The country needs energy. Everything can be stopped, but the supply of energy cannot be stopped. It is our duty to ensure the safety and stability of power grids and power supply to households. We must stick to our post 24 hours a day throughout the year. It is our mission to ensure the safety of power grids and customers’ safe use of electricity. During the pandemic period, more than 400 technical service engineers from CYG SUNRI stuck to their posts and were prepared for responding to the needs of operation and maintenance, defect elimination, installation and commissioning services in various regions at any time. Power grid construction service engineers in areas with severe pandemic did all they could. They were always prepared for responding in time to meet the needs of users and the country. During this period, we participated in several key pandemic prevention projects, such as the Xiaotangshan Hospital Project in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.

“During the pandemic period, we encountered many problems and challenges. On the one hand, the pandemic changed employees' work habits. The outbreak of the pandemic occurred during the Spring Festival, when many employees went home for reunion. After the rapid resumption of work and production, employees had to adapt to the new normal of online communication, which was both a challenge and an opportunity for us. We arranged work via the conference systems of DingTalk and WeChat, so that employees in different positions could have exchange and discussions, learn from each other, and inspire each other to come up with good ideas! Online meetings can not only help team members to systematically sort out, transmit and share knowledge, but also can realize organic connection among different teams. Therefore, instead of lowering our work efficiency, the pandemic helped our company effectively expand office space. On the other hand, we were subject to restrictions on personnel assignment. Shenzhen government's requirements and policies for pandemic prevention and control were changing, leading to many restrictions on personnel assignment, and causing a certain impact on the company's production and delivery. Our solution was to break up all teams and the team members could go wherever they were needed. For example, the members of the R&D team and many girls went to the production lines to support delivery. In the face of difficulties, we believed in our power and our teamwork could overcome all difficulties. We must ensure delivery as scheduled and protect the interests of our customers.

At the end of the interview, Guo Weiming gave some suggestions to the students of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering: “The mission of engineers is to solve problems and make the answers infinitely close to the truth,” saidMr.Guo. “Many jobs may be taken by artificial intelligence in the future. We should embrace the times and give full play to our talent in creative jobs. ”

It is learnt that CYG SUNRI Co., Ltd. and the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering have had extensive cooperation, and the two sides have developed very strong relationships In recent years, CYG SUNRI has attracted more than 100 outstanding graduates of the school, and provided them with a broad platform for growth and development to enable them to realize their value in China’s electric power industry.
